Ten Things of Thankful: week 24-25/2013

This is for those of you who did not read my post from yesterday: My week has been beyond busy with dozens of appointments and things on my to do list. Therefore, I want to apologise that I have not gotten back to everyone on the last Thankful blog post yet. I hope I will be able to do so at some point this weekend.

Here is this week's Ten Things of Thankful list:

1) Strawberries. I love them and I enjoy the sweetness of our local fruits. Sadly, the local strawberry season will soon be over.

2) Fountains where hot feet can be cooled in.

3) "Sweet Disposition" by The Temper Trap. I love how this song starts off rather restraint and then ends in a powerful crescendo. It gives me major chills every time I hear it.

4) That this crazily busy week is almost over now. I really hope next week will be a bit better!

5) The air condition we bought for Sunny's room. It is the only AC in our home. This week was hot and humid as hell and Sunny's room was the only room where I was able to sleep at night.

6) The summer party that took place in Sunny's kindergarten on Friday. It was kind of bittersweet for me because I will really miss his teachers (and I am still not happy about his transition to school). We had a wonderful afternoon together and I really enjoyed what they had prepared for the parents and the kids.

7) The presents I am preparing for Sunny's teachers at the moment in order to thank them for the three beautiful years they gave my son. We could not have wished for a better, more loving place for him to start his way into education.

8) Breezy summer dresses.

9) Ibuprofen. It helps me to get through my frequent headache days.

10) The weather shift. Right now we have sunny days with moderate temperatures and always a bit of a breeze and this is just how I love summer.

  2. Ibuprofen is one of my life savers.
I live in FL...a/c is an absolute necessity!

    1. Definitely! Here it is rather unusual to have one. We do not need it that often (although our summers are getting hotter each year it seems...)

  3. Summer is wonderful and the strawberries and the fountains sound like the icing on the warm-weather cake.

Sorry to hear about the headaches, but I'm glad your crazy-busy week is slowing down for you soon :)

  5. I have never heard that song before. It's wonderful!
Just last summer I found the beauty of dresses and skirts. So much cooler than shorts!
I love hearing about the good teachers kids have had.
We haven't had to use our A/C very much lately, and I have so enjoyed it. This week, though, we're up into the normal hot, humid temps of summer. So grateful for the air conditioning!
Even though your coming week is still busy, I hope it's a bit easier than this one.

    1. How cool that you like "my" song! I could listen to it on repeat the whole day.

I am a total dresses and skirts girl! I have always loved fancy dresses (but I like to wear pants as well).

      Good teachers are so important!

Thank you for your wishes, we will see how the next week plays out.

  6. We also have the 'single air condition/single room' cooling system in our house.
The fun is to sit at the dinner table and eat, being rather warm, then getting up and walking down the hall, step into the bedroom.
It's like having a department store in your own house!

    1. Hahaha! I love that comparison to the department store!

  7. WOW...no AC?!? Yes, I'd say having it in one room would make me thankful as well. The rest of the list aside, that's enough to cover the whole 10 items! :)

And I love #8...summer dresses and skirts are THE.BEST.

    1. I live in Europe, so we do not always have these hot temperatures (I am thankful for THAT!!). It is really uncommon here to have AC. The one we have is only a mobile one, it is not installed.

Great that you are a dresses and skirts girl, too! :-)

  8. Cheers to strawberries as well. We introduced our girls to strawberry shortcake last night, and even though they weren't as impressed as we were, it was totally a great summer memory. And no A/C??? We would never make it down here in Texas, lol.

    1. Aww, I love strawberry cake, too! We had one this weekend as well and my son could not stop eating!

Yeah, I am pretty sure we would have AC too if we lived in Texas! I would never be able to live anywhere like this though, I think. Everything hotter than 28 °C is out of my comfort zone.

  9. Joy,
I've never heard that song before and I love it. I downloaded it to my phone immediately - while it was still playing. Thank you for introducing me to awesome new music!! YES! to strawberries. Were it not for them, there are days when Tucker would not eat anything at all. AC for Sunny's room is huge. We have it here and I can't imagine the summers without it. It can be 105degrees F (not sure what that converts to in C) with 96% humidity. It is awful.
    Happy weekend, friend!
    xoxo

    1. Kristi! I LOVE that you love my song that much! Isn't it just completely awesome??!

Sunny only eats strawberries on cake but this is what he loves huge!!

Let me google the temperature... OMG 105 °F is 40 °C!!! I would NOT survive in a climate like that and the humidity makes it even worse!! Seriously, I would not be able to stand that. I did not know it was THAT hot where you lived!! As I just mentioned: everything hotter than 28 °C is out of my comfort zone.

Happy rest of the weekend to you, my dear!! xoxo

  10. I love to wear dresses in the summer. So easy just to throw one on and go! I'm also a big fan of ibuprofen. It's the only thing that will knock out a sinus headache for me.

    1. That's what I love about dresses, too: you do not have to think of anything else to combine it with, you are dressed in an instant.

  13. You had me at strawberries! We bought some fresh picked Willamette Valley berries a few days ago. Ate them. Then had to buy more. But those are gone too. I cannot believe how much better the berries grown near our home are compared to Costco or Safeway, or, etc. Anyway, thanks for doing this and being a co-host. I've found you through Finding Ninee and am glad I did. Great way to meet other bloggers. Thanks! And have a great Sunday evening.

    1. I know, it is the same here. Our regional strawberries are so much better than the ones you can buy at the supermarket.

Welcome to my blog! Hope to see you again soon! :-)

  14. MMMM I love fresh strawberries! Fresh fruit in general. Lately I've been buying a lot of watermelon. Back to strawberries, though, a few times in the past weeks I've had some strawberry shortcake when visiting my grandma. It's delicious :-)

I like "Sweet Disposition" and every time I hear it I think of U2. The music makes me think of them a lot. The video, which I'd never seen before, is pretty sweet.

Wow, I would go nuts with no AC. I use mine all the time, because I can't stand heat/humidity. Do you just use fans?

I hope his transition in school goes smoothly. I'm sure it will :-)

It would be nice if you got a little more down time and less stress this week too!

The weather is definitely shifting here, but I want move thunderstorms!

Thanks for stopping by! I enjoyed your list and look forward to next Saturday's.

    1. Dear Jak,

      Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Watermelon is one of my favourite fresh fruit, too! We have a gigantic one in the fridge at the moment!

I like that you like the song! You are right, they really sound a bit like U2 (only better - in my opinion! ;-) )

No, we do not even use fans. We just melt in the heat!

Thanks for the well wishes regarding the school. I really do hope so, too!

Thunderstorms are quite cool actually. To witness the sheer force of nature is fascinating!

Looking forward to seeing you again on Saturday! :-)
