Slow cooker: I'm in!

I did it, I ordered a slow cooker! Yay! Looking forward to using it! And as soon as I taught it how to operate the dish washer, the washing machine and the vacuum I will let you know how it does! ;-)

But first of all I need your help. Which are your favourite recipes? Could you please provide me with some links? That would be great! And is there anything I have to pay attention to or to consider?

  1. One of my favorites to make is stroganoff and McCormick sells a spice mix that you can use. Makes it pretty simple. I am making an effort to use my crock pot more often to help lighten my load.

I recently made this dish, http://www.plainchicken.com/2012/01/slow-cooker-ham-white-beans.html#more, but made a few changes like using half of a fresh onion along with the powder, adding some garlic powder, and substituting half of the water with chicken stock. I did a double batch and should have soaked the beans overnight. I'll know next time.

    1. Thank you, Rae! What is that spice mix you mentioned? We do not have McCormick here ;-)
The recipe you linked to sounds good, thanks!
BTW, did you see that I nominated for an award last week?

  2. YAY you. And I'm looking forward to you sharing the secret of the cooker learning to do the dishes. Maybe I can teach mine to help me potty train Tucker?
I always make my pasta sauce in the cooker. You can't really go wrong - throw in a bunch of smushed tomatoes, some tomato paste, oregano, basil, mushrooms, (meat if you want it - I cook mine first) and let it slow cook for about 4 hours. It turns out perfectly!
Also, I sometimes just make things up - and it's usually pretty good. A standard is to throw in some cut-up chicken breasts, chicken stock, potatoes, carrots, celery, salt and pepper. Also, I tried this recipe about a month ago and it turned out really yummy: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slow-Cooker-Chicken-Parisienne/Detail.aspx

    Have fun!

    1. I like all kinds of food! I'm really not a picky eater! What is cornbread?

    2. i'm sure there is some technical answer to that question, but the best i could think of....it's like cake but made with cornmeal instead of flour. you can make it from scratch but i buy a box mix called Jiffy. Jiffy has a sweeter taste than homemade, which i prefer. i'll see if i can find the from scratch recipe and put it in another comment! think it's cornmeal, buttermilk, and eggs, though.
